Troegs Nugget Nectar

nuggetnectarAnother beer that I’ve trader for lately; this one arrived as a six pack that was shared with the entire crew.I like the name of this beer.  Any time that a company can alliterate the name of a beer so that it flows easily off the tongue when you’re drunk, I feel blessed. That, and it beats the hell out of calling it testicle juice.

Initial color is orange, burnt amber with a nice three finger, fluffy white head. Very pretty beer that reminds me more of an IPA than an amber or red ale as it is classified here.
Smell is of hops, citrus and a slight floral smell lingers in the background.

The first taste went well, and this beer really grew on me as the night progressed. I feel like I could get through six bottles of this without realizing where they all went so fast. This beer is really easy to drink. The flavors remind me of some of the San Diego Pale Ales that are available here, but without the uber bitter hop bite that one would get at the end. Kind of a Two Hearted meets Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. I like that the beer isn’t overly malty, but still has loads of fruit and citrus flavors. Would like to see a little more bitterness on the finish, but the lack of bitterness also makes this beer extremely drinkable.
Word to the wise. Have at least six of these if you plan on drinking them; they are so easy that you’ll want more and more…
A nice beer that isn’t from California. Cool!

Official BoozeReviews Score:  92/100.  A great IPA that isn’t from California.  Way to change my mind about the hops factor with this Michiganian offering.

Had this tonight after a Port Wipeout, and it reminds me of Pure Hoppiness as far as hop profile and mouthfeel.

I noticed the same thing once you said that. I’m getting a similarity to Pure Hoppiness as well. It’s a shame that on the east coast, a brewery takes it’s best beer, which is nothing too amazing but still very solid (talking about Nugget here still) and makes it into a once a year thing. I mean, kinda sad. Nugget would get overlooked by far if it were on the west coast, yet Troegs goes and makes this pretty good brew and then only releases it once a year? It’s not like it’s barrel aged and takes 6 months in barrels, or a Tripel IPA that takes 6 weeks to ferment and secondary/dry hop like Younger.
