Alpine Brewing Company — O’Brien’s IPA
As described by Tom Nickel, owner of O’Brien’s Pub (December 2007):
The new O’Brien’s IPA from Alpine Beer Company is a collaboration between owner/brewer Pat McIllhenny (Alpine Beer Company) and Tom Nickel (O’Brien’s Pub). (Editor’s note: Tom even got to go to the brewery to help make this masterpiece. Versatile!) It is a 6.2% alcohol, golden colored IPA with tons of hops. The hops used for this brew include: Columbus, Centennial, Cascade, Amarillo, and Simcoe. The end product is nice and bitter with a very full flavor of hops.
As described by Jesse the Hutt:
Went up to Alpine for a growler fill of this new IPA, or should I say “my new favorite IPA!” Just looking at the beer, there is a deep golden color reminiscent of Racer 5. Pours with a foamy, one-inch head. The initial smell reminded me of Pliny the Elder from the Russian River Brewing Company. Similar hops perhaps? Piney scent with a backdrop of Fuck Yeah!
Alpine Brewing Company’s beer has always been on the short list of favorites that I have, and this beer sure didn’t disappoint. I fell in love after the first taste. My initial feeling was that I could drink the entire growler by myself in no time at all. So I did, minus one pint for J David. This is the ultimate beer for an all day drink-a-thon, especially considering that it’s only 6.2% alcohol. This new favorite is even easier to drink than Alpine Beer Company’s Duet, or Stone Brewing Company’s IPA. Perhaps even easier to drink than water, much tastier, and better for you! I challenge you to find a better IPA!
Plus Score: There comes a time in every person’s life when everything feels just right. This beer produces a zen-like feeling when consumed, utter IPA perfection! And yes, the growlers make a sweet lover when all of the beer is gone… 200/100 points!
Minus Score: The only complaint about this beer is that it is not offered in bottles, and it is utterly impossible to find unless you travel to the brewery in Alpine. Subtract 50 points.
Official Score: That leaves us with an official BoozeReviews score of 150/100
L’Chaim!

Word on the streets is that Tom Nickel would like to continue producing batches of Obrien’s IPA but that Pat McIlhenney is undecided as of yet.
Obrien’s IPA due to be re-released April 15th, 2008 at the Alpine Brewing Company!
